Rough rider
Sliding Cleat-On-Rail Tie-Down System rides up and down with the tide or wave action to always ensure taut lines!
The patent-pending ROUGH RIDER™ mooring system allows for quick and easy tying up of your vessel. The easy-to-install system consists of a series of polymer "cleats" that ride up and down stainless rods which allows you to tie your boat up tight.
This means you can position your boat where you want to instead of centering it in the slip. It also eliminates the need for spring/slack/criss-cross lines
ROUGH RIDER™ neutralizes wave-caused “bucking” of moored boats; eliminates the need for spring lines, slack lines and crisscross lines; no need to center the boat in a slip.
How ROUGH RIDER™ compares to the competition
1. Quieter: Our noise-dampening spring eliminates any sound of the cleat bouncing on the mounting bracket
2. Stronger: Our one-piece 316 stainless flat bar is laser cut, machined and bent vs. their two-piece angle iron; our bracket is welded on both sides vs. their butt-welding on just one side.
3. Sleeker: Our pacified welds look cleaner, more finished than their sandblasting.
And, we are competitively priced, too!
TIDE RIGHT
Tide-Adjusting Fender/Cleat System moves up and down with the tide so the fender is always at the height of your boat’s rub rail!
At Seahorse Docking, we’ve solved the age old problem of protecting your boat with fenders where a constantly rising and falling tide is involved. TIDE RIGHT is a true tide adjusting fender/cleat system. Once you set the fender and cleat to match the level of your boat’s rub rail, the built-in float and the tide do the rest.
- Patented design – adjustable, self-leveling fender system.
- No need to align boat cleat and piling (as you do with competitive products).
- Simply set fender height to rub rail and Tide Right’s built-in float will adjust with the tide.
- Eliminates damage to your boat (from growth on dock pilings) caused by misaligned fenders.
- Offers protection to top of piling and from surge or king tides.
- Makes for fast tie-offs; ideal for one-side docking
Standard beam length: 10' (12', 14', 16' also available)
Y-beam for mounting to (round) wood pilings • I-beam for mounting to flat surfaces (seawalls)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: tide right
Explore In-Depth Explanations and Insights to Help You Navigate Our Offerings. Everything You Need to Know.
Do my cleats on my boat have to line up with the tide right?
No, your cleats don’t have to line up, but you will need to use spring lines, similar to how you would tie up to a floating dock.
Will this work on a piling?
Yes, our Y beams are specifically designed to fit perfectly on round surfaces, making it easy to drill and secure them into a piling.
What does the i & y beam length mean and how do I choose?
When selecting your beam length, consider the average tide, surge, gunnel height, and cleat height above the water. At the lowest tide, we recommend having about 18" of clearance underwater. Example: For a 4' tide, 4' cleat height from the water, and 2' underwater clearance, you would need a 10' beam (4' tide + 4' cleat height + 2' underwater = 10').
Does the tide right auto adjust?
Yes! With our floating fender and cleat system, you can set the distance off the water exactly where you want it, and it will stay consistent. Lines should remain on the Tide Right for easy docking when returning to home base. The two floats in the water drive the entire system, ensuring the perfect height every time!
Can Tide Rights be mounted to a sea wall?
Of course! They work great for tying up one-sided against seawalls and bulkheads, especially since you can align them directly with the cleats on the boat, eliminating the need for spring lines.
What size boat can the Tide Rights hold?
Typically, boats up to 50' have no problem using the Tide Right. For larger boats, we may recommend 3-4 Tide Rights, depending on your specific setup.
How long until the nylon slide material needs to be replaced?
We recommend replacing them after 2 years, but it’s important to monitor their condition, as they may need replacement sooner depending on water conditions and tidal range. In a protected canal with minimal tidal change, they’ll last longer than in rougher water with higher tidal fluctuations.
What are Tide Rights made of?
The aluminum slide extrusions house the nylon inserts that move up and down the aluminum beams. Like nearly everything we build, the framework is made from durable 6063 aluminum, and all fasteners are high-quality 316L stainless steel. The cleats are also made from stainless steel, and our floats are custom roto-molded for added strength and durability.
Once I set the fender to the rub rail height of my boat, do I ever have to re-adjust it?
No! Once you set the fender on our patented Tide Rights, you don’t have to adjust it again. The fender and cleat heights will remain at the exact distance from the water that you set them to. Our patented Tide Adjusting Fender and Cleat System makes docking your boat a breeze. If you're pulling into a transient slip with Tide Rights, simply use the handle lock to adjust the fender and cleat to your boat’s specifications.
Once I set the fender to the rub rail height do I ever have to re-adjust it?
While the Tide Right works great for one-sided docking, it can also be used with our Rough Rider system when you have the option to tie up on both sides of the boat. This gives you even more flexibility for secure, easy docking.
Is the Tide Right only used in one sided docking scenarios?
While the Tide Right works great for one sided docking they can also be used with our Rough Rider’s when you have the ability to tie up on both sides of the boat?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: ROUGH RIDER
What are they made out of?
We use 316L Stainless Steel for all of our Rough Rider mooring systems.
What does it mean when the welds are passivated?
After welding our 316L stainless steel, we use a passivation process to restore and clean the welds, preventing corrosion. This method results in a much cleaner finish compared to sandblasting or aluminum oxide blasting, providing a more polished, durable look. (photo of before and after)
What are the cleats made of?
Our blocks are made from a special plastic called UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene). This material is chosen for its exceptional impact strength and low friction coefficient. It’s highly resistant to water, moisture, and UV radiation, making it an ideal solution for marine environments.
What sets us apart from everyone else?
The biggest differentiator between us and the others is the way we weld our stainless steel rods to the mounting brackets. We actually weld the tops and bottoms of the barrakets making our brackets our strength point and not just relying on a weld. We also have added noise dampening springs to reduce the noise at low tide. Our mounting brackets are laser cut, machined with beautiful chamfers and then bent into shape before being welded. Our passivation process adds to the elegance of our product. We know our customers won't settle for anything but the best and that is exactly what we aim to provide.
